Cole Wheels uses a carbon wrapped aluminum rim, laced to its novel DSA hub for the new Aries Carbo 0.5 cross-country racing wheel. The freewheel is their six-pawl instant engagement design. Weight is said to be 1689 grams a set.

Race Face has a few things that caught our eye. They added a full armor kit for children and also a women’s only line as well. The Next carbon crankset was on the scale at a an astonishing 733 grams for everything including the removable tips that protect from rock bashes. They added a single speed version too.

Scott was on the attack with the carbon fiber Genius LTD that is made in limited quantities. The motif is black and gold with gold label DT Swiss carbon wheels, Gold hardware Formula Oro Puro disc brakes, gold alloy pivot hardware and, well, you get it. It costs 11,499 dollars and weighs 22.8 pounds—not bad for a 15-millimeter-travel big-hit bike.

Another Scott USA must see was the Scale RC—a pro-level racing platform with an integrated seat mast, and a cross-country competition component group that begins with SRAM X.9 and a Truvativ Noir carbon crankset. The RC is the more affordable option at $6499 (the Limited Scale runs $8999). www.scottusa.com

DT Swiss was well represented among upper-crust bike brands at the show. The white version of their 240 S hubs reflects that white is now the new black. Their top hub can be had with ceramic hybrid bearings too.

DT Swiss is in the lightweight fork business—and has adopted the 15QR through-axle standard. This is the ECX 150 fork (6-inch travel) with the RWS quick release lever system.
